Mission
The mission of The Harold & Arlene Schnitzer CARE Foundation is to support Arts & Culture, Youth, Educational, Medical, Social Service, and Community activities that enhance quality of life.
History
In 1952, Harold and Arlene Schnitzer purchased the historic Claremont Hotel in Berkeley, California. Over the next 42 years Harold, Arlene and their son, Jordan, helped transform the hotel into one of the Bay Area’s most recognized landmarks.
The Schnitzer family decided to sell the Claremont Hotel in 1998 and use the proceeds to fund the family foundations: The Harold & Arlene CARE Foundation and the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation.
Harold, Arlene & Jordan have always believed in the importance of giving back to the community.
The family is honored to join those who also believe that the riches of our cities are our citizens and support the cultural, social, religious, educational and medical institutions that provide so much for all of us!
Jordan Schnitzer and the other trustees of The Harold & Arlene Schnitzer CARE Foundation continue to fund hundreds of projects that they feel will touch people’s lives and enrich our community.
