“My father, Harold Schnitzer, was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at age 42 and spent the rest of his life managing his illness. He followed the latest developments and supported diabetic research but was most passionate about patient care. He knew many were not as fortunate as he was to receive the best care available. In 2007, my father and mother, Arlene Schnitzer, founded the Harold Schnitzer Diabetic Health Center at OHSU expanding diabetic care in our region and creating a national model of patient care!
My father, who passed away in 2011, would be so proud of Dr. Andrew Ahmann, the founding director of the Harold Schnitzer Diabetic Health Center at OHSU, for being named the national 2018 American Diabetic Association’s Outstanding Physician Clinician in Diabetes. Not only did Dr. Ahmann take care of my father, but he and his staff, of over 70 professionals, care for over 7,000 patients each year.
On behalf of my mother Arlene and every patient who comes to the Harold Schnitzer Diabetic Health Center at OHSU: Dr. Andrew Ahmann while you are the 2018 American Diabetic Association’s Outstanding Physician Clinician Award recipient, you are our outstanding doctor every day, every year. Congratulations!”
