Funding

The Harold & Arlene Schnitzer CARE Foundation and the Schnitzer family examined their philanthropic philosophies in April 2019 and, as a result, re-established new granting procedures.

The CARE Foundation’s principal purpose will continue to be the support of Arts & Culture, Youth, Educational, Medical, Social Service, and Community activities that enhance quality of life.  Beginning in May 2019, this will be done primarily through the CARE Foundation’s youth philanthropy program, CommuniCare (see below).

Small Grants (<$10,000)

The CARE Foundation’s youth philanthropy program, CommuniCare, continues to expand! The majority of our small grants in the Oregon/Portland Metropolitan area will be distributed through this program. We are excited to announce that more than $1 million in community grants will be determined and awarded by the youth participating in CommuniCare for the 2023-2024 school year. For more information, please visit the CommuniCare website.

Other Grants

Due to large multi-year pledge commitments, the Board of Directors is longer inviting or reviewing any grant proposals until further notice.

Event Sponsorship

The CARE Foundation’s Board of Directors is significantly reducing the number of sponsorships for the upcoming event season.  Only those organizations that have historically received strong support from the CARE Foundation will be given sponsorship support consideration. Please contact Erica Hetfeld-Schpak at EricaH@schnitzerproperties.com to inquire if a sponsorship request can be submitted.
