This Senior Capstone course, facilitated by Suzanne Savaria, is an opportunity for students to serve as an independent grantmaking committee focused on arts and culture nonprofits in Oregon. Representing Portland State University, we are a group of arts-driven, diverse, and interdisciplinary students in the Philanthropy for Arts and Culture cohort partnering with the Schnitzer CARE Foundation. We seek to provide $25,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations of any budget size in the State of Oregon. We wish to fund organizations that prioritize art made for and by Asian Pacific Islander, Black, Indigenous, Immigrant, or Latine artists and communities. We believe in preserving community arts and cultural practices and employing artists within the identified groups to increase arts access, arts preservation, and artistic healing.
